Frequently asked questions about purchases, licences and downloads
English version - v1.3 | Updated 08 September 2026
Are the illustrations sold?
No. You purchase a licence to use an illustration; copyright and ownership of the work remain with Mirko Grisendi.
How long does the licence last?
The licence for an illustration that has been purchased or redeemed is perpetual. Only unused credits expire.
Is the licence exclusive?
No. Standard and Extended Licences are non-exclusive. Contact Illustar before use if you require exclusivity.
Can I use the same illustration for more than one client?
A separate licence is required for each end client. You may buy or redeem the same illustration more than once to obtain several licences, and you may use the illustration in multiple projects for the same client, subject to the limits of the selected licence.
How many people may use the file?
Only one authorised user may access the standalone JPG. You may deliver the finished project, but you may not share the file as a separate asset.
What is the difference between the Standard and Extended Licences?
The Standard Licence permits up to 5,000 physical reproductions and does not permit merchandise or templates. The Extended Licence permits unlimited physical reproductions, merchandise subject to restrictions and non-extractable digital products.
Are online views limited?
No. Views on websites, social media and newsletters are not included in the Standard Licence limit of 5,000 copies.
May I sell products featuring the illustration?
Only under an Extended Licence. Print-on-demand is prohibited; if the illustration constitutes the main value of the product, a separate agreement with Illustar is required.
May I use the illustration in a logo?
Not under the catalogue licences. Contact Illustar to discuss an exclusive or custom agreement.
May I modify the illustration?
Yes. Cropping, adding text, colour changes and other adaptations are permitted, but you may not claim authorship or create exclusive rights in the original work.
Do I have to credit the artist?
No, unless the product page states otherwise. Attribution is nevertheless appreciated.
What file will I receive?
One sRGB JPG file of at least 15 megapixels, normally around 5,000 × 3,500 pixels. ZIP, PSD, TIFF, PNG, CMYK and vector files are not supplied.
Is the file suitable for printing?
That depends on the final size and the quality required. Pixel dimensions are the main factor; the 72 ppi metadata value can be changed without adding or removing pixels.
When will I receive the download?
Normally immediately after payment, by email and, where enabled, on the order confirmation page. Registered customers may also retrieve the file from their account area. Bank-transfer orders are delivered after the funds have cleared.
Does the download link expire?
It has no scheduled expiry and downloads are unlimited, unless access is disabled because of a refund, a chargeback, fraud, a licence breach, a legal obligation or a security issue.
May I request a refund?
Illustar voluntarily offers a refund within 14 days if the file has not been downloaded or used. Mandatory remedies for defective or non-conforming digital content always remain available.
I purchased the same file twice. What happens?
Buying the same illustration twice is valid, not an error: each purchase creates a separate licence, which is how you license the same illustration for more than one end client. If the duplication resulted from a technical error, the duplicate amount will be refunded. If you believe you bought twice by mistake, contact support and we will review your request.
I selected the wrong licence. Can I change it?
Licences cannot be changed by paying or refunding a difference. If you need a higher-tier licence, buy it in full: the earlier licence is then cancelled and refunded, or, if it came from a credit, the credit is returned to your balance with its original expiry date. This applies even if you have already used the illustration, provided that use continues under the new licence. There is no downgrade route.
How do credit packs work?
Core packs are available for 10, 20 or 50 downloads. Selected packs are available for 5 or 10 downloads; larger quantities are available through a tailored quote requested via the dedicated form. An account is required to redeem credits. Credits expire exactly 180 days after purchase and do not renew automatically. Where you pay by bank transfer, credits become available only once the funds have cleared. Illustrations redeemed before expiry remain licensed perpetually.
Can I use a coupon together with credits?
No. Coupons do not apply to credit packs, nor to items already covered by credits. Where a promotion sets a minimum spend, that threshold is calculated on the order value before any credits are applied.
May I use the illustrations to train an AI system?
No. Training, testing, datasets, scraping, reserved text and data mining, visual prompts, NFTs and blockchain uses are prohibited, except for any non-waivable uses permitted by law.
Are the illustrations generated using AI?
No. Illustar illustrations are original works created by Mirko Grisendi and are not AI-generated.
Can I receive an invoice?
Yes, on request. You must provide the complete billing and tax information listed on the Payments & Billing page. Where credits are used, the invoice relates to the purchase of the credit pack; a redemption order settled entirely with credits does not give rise to a separate invoice.
How can I contact support?
Email support@illustar.art and include the order number, your email address and a description of the issue.
